Screen Overlays

Overlays are dynamic elements that appear on top of your content. They're perfect for displaying real-time information like time, weather, logos, or important announcements without interrupting your main content.

Available Overlay Types

Clock Overlay

Display the current time on your screen.

Features:

  • Customizable font family (12+ options)
  • Custom text color with color picker
  • Automatic timezone detection
  • Clean, minimal design

Image Overlay

Add logos, graphics, or branding images.

Features:

  • Select from your media library
  • Supports JPG, PNG, and other image formats
  • Drag to position anywhere on screen
  • Resize by dragging corners
  • Perfect for logos and watermarks

Use image overlays for your company logo in a corner of every screen to maintain consistent branding.

Weather Overlay

Show current weather conditions.

Features:

  • Current temperature display
  • Weather icon (sunny, cloudy, rain, etc.)
  • Automatic location detection
  • Clean, minimal design

Announcement Overlay

Display scrolling or static text announcements.

Features:

  • Custom text message
  • Great for alerts and promotions
  • Prominent display position
  • Easy to update on the fly

Adding an Overlay

Overlays are added through the Design tab in the screen configuration:

  1. Navigate to Screens
  2. Click on a screen to open configuration
  3. Go to the Design tab
  4. Find the "Add Overlay" section in the sidebar
  5. Drag an overlay type onto the preview canvas
  6. Drop it where you want it positioned
  7. Configure the overlay settings in the modal that appears
  8. Changes save automatically

Overlay positioning is done entirely through drag-and-drop. Simply drag an overlay onto the canvas and position it exactly where you want.

Positioning Overlays

Overlays use drag-and-drop positioning on the canvas:

Drag to Position

  1. Grab the overlay on the canvas
  2. Drag it to your desired location
  3. Release to set the position
  4. The overlay snaps to its new location

Resize Overlays

  1. Hover over an overlay to see resize handles
  2. Drag corners or edges to resize
  3. Maintain aspect ratio by dragging corners

Overlay Stacking

When overlays overlap:

  • Later-added overlays appear on top
  • Click an overlay to bring it forward
  • Overlays always render above zone content

Editing Overlays

Click to Edit

  1. Click on any overlay on the canvas
  2. A context menu or modal appears
  3. Modify settings as needed
  4. Changes save automatically

Delete Overlay

  1. Click on the overlay
  2. Click the delete/trash icon
  3. Confirm deletion
  4. Overlay is removed immediately

Best Practices

Placement

  • Don't obscure important content
  • Consider viewing distance
  • Use corners for persistent information (clock, logo)
  • Use bottom area for announcements

Content Balance

  • Limit to 2-3 overlays per screen
  • Ensure text is readable
  • Match brand colors
  • Test from actual viewing distance

Troubleshooting

Overlay Not Showing

  • Verify the screen is online
  • Check that the overlay was saved
  • Refresh the screen configuration
  • Ensure the overlay is not hidden behind content

Weather Not Displaying

  • Check internet connection
  • Location detection may be blocked
  • Wait for initial data load

Clock Wrong Time

  • Check screen timezone setting
  • Verify the physical device's system time

Image Not Loading

  • Verify the image exists in media library
  • Check file format is supported (JPG, PNG)
  • Ensure file is not corrupted
