Step-by-step guide to creating ordered playlist sequences
Creating Sequences
Learn how to create sequences that organize multiple playlists into a continuous loop.
Prerequisites
Before creating a sequence, you need:
- At least 1 playlist created (recommended: 2 or more)
- Growth plan subscription
Step 1: Navigate to Sequences
- Go to Sequences in the main navigation
- You'll see your existing sequences or an empty state
Step 2: Create New Sequence
- Click Create Sequence
- A modal will open with the sequence form
Step 3: Enter Sequence Details
- Enter a name for your sequence (required)
- Add an optional description
- If you have multiple workspaces, choose:
- A specific workspace, or
- Check Share across all workspaces to make it available everywhere
Name sequences by their purpose: "Restaurant Full Rotation" or "Lobby Content Mix"
Step 4: Add Initial Playlists (Optional)
- Expand Add playlists now section
- Check the playlists you want to include
- Use Select all to add all available playlists
- Selected playlists show a count badge
Playlists marked with a warning icon are empty. They will be added but won't display any content until you add media to them.
Step 5: Create the Sequence
- Click Create Sequence
- The sequence is created with your selected playlists
- You're taken to the sequence detail view
Step 6: Manage Playlists in Sequence
In the sequence detail view, you can:
Add More Playlists
- Click Add Playlist button
- Select playlists from the available list
- Click Add to include them
New playlists are added at the end of the sequence.
Remove Playlists
- Click the trash icon next to any playlist
- Confirm removal in the dialog
View Sequence Info
The detail view shows:
- Total duration across all playlists
- Number of playlists in the sequence
- Each playlist's position number
Example: Restaurant Content
Position 1: Welcome Messages
Position 2: Breakfast Menu
Position 3: Lunch Specials
Position 4: Promotional Offers
Position 5: Dinner Menu
This sequence plays through all five playlists, then loops back to Welcome Messages.
Example: Retail Store
Position 1: Brand Story
Position 2: New Arrivals
Position 3: Featured Products
Position 4: Seasonal Promotions
Position 5: Customer Reviews
Each playlist plays completely before moving to the next.
Example: Corporate Lobby
Position 1: Company Overview
Position 2: Recent News
Position 3: Employee Spotlights
Position 4: Upcoming Events
Editing Sequences
Change Name or Description
- Click the Edit button next to the sequence name
- Update the name or description
- Click Save
Reorganize Playlist Order
Currently, playlists appear in the order they were added. To change the order:
- Remove playlists you want to reposition
- Add them back in the desired order
Playlist positions start at 0 internally but display as 1, 2, 3... in the interface for clarity.
Deleting Sequences
- Go to the Sequences list
- Click the menu on a sequence card
- Select Delete
- Confirm deletion
You cannot delete a sequence that is assigned to an active schedule. Remove it from schedules first.
Tips for Effective Sequences
Group Related Content
Organize playlists by theme or purpose:
- All menu-related playlists in one sequence
- All promotional content in another
- All informational content together
Consider Loop Time
Calculate total duration:
- If each playlist is 5 minutes
- And you have 4 playlists
- Total loop time is 20 minutes
Balance Content Mix
Vary content types across playlists:
- Mix promotional with informational
- Include engaging visuals between text-heavy content
- Space out similar content
Test Before Deploying
- Create a test sequence with a few playlists
- Assign to a test screen
- Watch one complete loop
- Adjust order or content as needed
Troubleshooting
Playlist Not Showing
- Check if the playlist has content
- Verify the playlist is properly added to the sequence
- Ensure the screen is online and updated
Wrong Order
- Verify positions in the sequence detail view
- Remove and re-add playlists in the correct order
- Refresh the screen to get updated sequence
Sequence Not Playing
- Confirm the sequence is assigned to the screen
- Check that all playlists have content
- Verify the screen's content source setting
