Screen Zones

Split your screen into multiple zones for displaying different content simultaneously

Screen Zones

Screen zones allow you to divide your display into multiple areas, each showing different content. This is perfect for complex layouts like menu boards with featured items, or lobby displays with news and weather.

What are Zones?

Zones are rectangular areas on your screen that can each display independent content. Think of them as "screens within a screen."

  • Zone 0 (Main Zone) - Displays your assigned playlist or sequence
  • Other Zones - Display static media (images or videos)

Use Zone 0 for your main rotating content (playlists/sequences) and other zones for static supporting content like menus, logos, or branding.

Zone Properties

PropertyDescription
PositionDetermined by template (fixed)
SizePercentage based on template
ContentZone 0: Playlist/sequence; Others: Static media
Z-IndexOverlays render above all zone content

Zone 0 (Main Zone)

The first zone (Zone 0) is special:

  • Displays your assigned playlist or sequence
  • Respects schedules automatically
  • Content is assigned in the Content tab
  • Other zones only show static media

Best Practices

Resolution Considerations

  • Larger zones can show detailed content
  • Smaller zones work best for simple media
  • Consider text readability at zone size
  • Test on actual screen resolution

Content Matching

Match content to zone purpose:

Zone TypeBest Content
Main zone (large)Videos, playlists, featured content
SidebarStatic images, menus, branding
Small zonesLogos, simple graphics

Performance

  • Each zone can play video independently
  • For best performance, limit video to 1-2 zones
  • Use static images for smaller zones
  • Complex layouts may require more device resources

Adding Overlays

Overlays (clock, weather, image, announcements) appear on top of zones:

  1. Go to the Design tab
  2. Drag an overlay from the sidebar
  3. Drop it anywhere on the canvas
  4. Position and resize as needed
  5. Overlays render above all zone content

Troubleshooting

Zone Content Not Showing

  • Verify content is assigned to the zone
  • Check that the media file is supported
  • Ensure the screen is online
  • Try refreshing the page

Performance Issues

  • Reduce number of video zones
  • Use lower resolution videos
  • Use static images in smaller zones
  • Consider simpler zone layout

Zones Not Updating

  • Check your internet connection
  • Ensure changes were saved
  • Refresh the screen from the dashboard
  • Verify the physical device is connected
